Climate
The Waterberg region lies in the summerrain zone of South Africa. In summer it is hot and humid, with frequent thunderstorms. The winters are dry, cold at night though, and often the temperatures drop below zero. The annual rainfalls lie between 500 and 700 millimetres.
Travel Time
Although in summer it is not as humid in the Marakele Park as it is in the Kruger Park and the vegetation is not as dense, it is better to travel this park in winter, from May to October. The chances to see a lot of game are higher then. The park is malaria-free.
Access
One travels via Thabazimbi (tarred road). The park only has sand and gravel roads. The restcamp - some 40 kilometres from the entrance gate - can only be reached in a 4x4, because the sand roads are very soft.

Accommodation
The restcamp lies directly at the Matlabas river and consists of safari tents with furnished extension. Each tent has a shower and a fully equipped kitchen with fridge and hot plates. On the verandah there are a table, chairs and a barbeque. No electricity at night. The restcamp is not fenced and game can visit at any time.
Provisions
In the park one can buy neither groceries nor petrol. The closest shops, petrol stations, doctors and police are in Thabazimbi.
