Attractions and Travel Hints

Richard's Bay CBDBoardwalk
Shopping Centre

Richard's Bay's biggest shopping centre lies close to the entrance to the town in the CBD (Central Business District). Here one can find everything. There are cinemas, restaurants and bars and more than a hundred shops.

The beaches are a few kilometres away from the city centre. One takes the John Ross Highway to Meerensee. Protected are the beaches Alkant and Newark. They have shark nets and lifeguards on duty. Very beautiful and pristine is the Two-Mile Beach, but due to dangerous currents swimming is not safe. Alkant Beach has a "Dolphin Viewing Platform".

Richard's Bay Small Craft HarbourTuzi Gazi Waterfront
The Waterfront is situated west of the beaches. First one has to cross a narrow bridge across the Mzingazi canal. There are some good restaurants, pubs and shops at the waterfront.

Naval Island
Right after the bridge over the canal leep to the left. On the spit of land are some very nice picnic spots on the water with view of the incoming and departing ships.

Lake Mzingazi
The lake measures 944 hectares. It is relatively untouched by tourism or watersports. One has the best view from the Richard's Bay Country Club at its south-eastern shore. Here also lies the city's golf course.
