Upington Airport Upington has an airport approx. 8 km north of the town centre. The airport boasts the longest runway in Africa (4.900 m). It is linked to the South African Airways network with daily flights to all major destinations in South Africa departing. Joy flights over the Kalahari and the Orange River can also be booked at the airport.
To Upington by Bus or Train

Two local tour operators offer guided safaris into the Kalahari desert and visit the spectacular Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park - also the Botswana part of this huge game reserve..

The Kalahari Oranje Museum in Schröder Street is worth a visit. It shows exhibits of the local history at the Orange river and the culture of the Khoikhoi people. The museum is open MoFr from 912h and from 1417h. Tel 0027 (0)54 3326064.
Kalahari Coffee Shop
The Kalahari Dried Fruit & Coffee Shop in Schröder Street sells local products and is a popular place to have a coffee or snack while watching the swans on the gently flowing Orange River.

Camel & Rider Statue
Located in front of the police station in Schröder Street. It commemorates the camel mounted police who policed the harsh desert territory in the past.
Date Palm Avenue
Cross the Orange River bridge to see the longest and densest palm avenue on the southern Hemisphere on Die Eiland. More than 200 date palms were planted here in 1935. The avenue is 1041m in length and was declared a national monument.
Follow the signposted wine route along the Orange River Valley and experience the most spectacular wines from the Orange River region made from sunbaked grapes.

Spitskop Nature Reserve
The Spitskop Nature Reserve is a small game reserve, approx 13 km north of Upington. It was named after the "Spitskop", Upington's granite koppie just outside the town. Game species in the reserve include oryx, springbok, red hartebeest, eland and zebra. You can drive through the reserve on well-maintained gravel roads (length 35 km). There are also hiking trails available and an overnight hut.
